RC 112 - Practicum II2 Credits This laboratory course is designed for the second quarter student which includes a continuation of concepts, principles and skills learned in prior lab courses. Topics covered include the proper set up and application of humidity and aerosols for the Respiratory Care patient. The course also provides a continuation of Pulmonary Function Testing covered in the previous quarter. Principles and application skills of Lung hyperinflation devices and Airway Clearing Devices are introduced along with the critical skills of Airway management and suctioning.

Student Learning Outcomes Demonstrate the proper set up and application of large volume bland aerosols.
Demonstrate the proper set up and application of small volume and medication aerosols.
Demonstrate how to properly perform specific pulmonary function tests such as forced vital capacity, Fev1 and NIF including results interpretation and findings.
Demonstrate how to properly operate and perform lung hyperinflation therapy with various devices such as Incentive Spirometry and Cough Assist therapy.
Demonstrate how to properly operate and apply various airway clearance techniques such as chest percussion therapy, flutter valves, and the smart vest.
Demonstrate proper airway management skills including patient positioning, airway suction, and bagging techniques.
