NRSG 215 - Pathopharmacology 41 Credits
Pharmacology concepts and the use of medications in the role of a nurse for advanced acute illnesses are the focus of this course. Intravenous fluid, including parenteral nutrition and advanced medication administration practices with complex, multi-step numerical calculations for rates of administration and titration medications are explored. Common medication classifications and considerations related to disorders of inflammation, infection, oxygenation, perfusion, acid/base balance, and hemostasis are examined.

Recognize patient cues and explain rationale for nursing clinical decision making for expected and unexpected patient outcomes as it pertains to Pathopharmacology.
Examine the use of medications in acute care and medical emergencies.
Identify and classify medications used in the care of individuals experiencing acute alterations of inflammation, infection, oxygenation, perfusion, acid/base balance, and hemostasis.
Calculate multi-step medication calculations involving medications utilized for hemodynamic stability.
Utilize parameters to interpret patient responses to medications and determine dose adjustments per protocol.
Identify priority information and discrepancies to include in documentation that reflects a continuum of quality improvement as it pertains to pathopharmacology.
