Course Outline
  • Analyzing Research in STEM Cognition: Analyzing current research on cognitive development (e.g., inquiry, problem-solving, critical thinking) as it applies to early math and science, including appropriate accommodations and modifications.
  • Culturally Sustaining STEM Pedagogy: Designing and leading equitable, culturally, and linguistically sustaining STEM experiences that build on children’s existing funds of knowledge.
  • Integrating Assistive Technology (AT): Selecting and integrating appropriate low- and high-tech assistive technologies to ensure all children can access, participate in, and demonstrate learning during STEM inquiry.
  • Synthesizing STEM Assessment Data: Using and synthesizing formal and informal assessment data to document children’s progression in scientific reasoning and mathematical thinking.
  • STEM Partnerships with Families: Developing strategies to partner with families and communities to support and extend children’s STEM learning and positive STEM identity outside the classroom.
