ECED 499 - BAS Early Childhood Education Capstone

This is the final course in the BAS in ECE program, providing students the opportunity to synthesize learning. Students will curate a professional portfolio that provides evidence of mastery for all BAS Program Learning Outcomes. Emphasis is placed on articulating a personal leadership and advocacy philosophy and defending a capstone project that critically evaluates and addresses a significant program-level challenge in early childhood education.

Pre-requisite(s) EDUC& 115, EDUC& 150, ECED& 190, ECED& 160, and EDUC& 204 with min 2.0

Synthesis & Portfolio Design: Curating a comprehensive professional portfolio that maps artifacts and reflections to each of the BAS Program Learning Outcomes.
Leadership Philosophy: Drafting and refining a personal professional leadership and advocacy philosophy statement, grounded in equity, ethics, and current research.
Capstone Project Finalization: Synthesizing the research, analysis, and solutions from the practicum series into a final, professional-quality capstone paper or project.
Professional Defense: Preparing and delivering a formal oral defense of the capstone project and portfolio to peers, faculty, and/or community members.
Future Directions: Reflecting on professional growth and developing a strategic plan for continued leadership and advocacy in the field.
