ECED& 160 - Curriculum Development5 Credits This course will explore early childhood education curriculum for children birth through age 8. Students will become familiar with learning theory and apply developmentally appropriate practices that are culturally relevant, anti-bias, anti-racist, and trauma-informed. Students will investigate methods of program planning, curriculum development, and instruction that promote language, fine/gross motor, social-emotional, cognitive, and creative skills.

- Curriculum resources, standards and principles for planning curriculum.
- Creating curriculum that supports children’s: language/communication, cognition, social/emotional growth, fine/gross motor development, and creative development.
- Planning developmentally appropriate activities and schedules.
- The role of observation, documentation and assessment of individual and group needs, interests and skills for curriculum planning.
- On-going modification of curriculum plans based on self reflection and assessment
