Learning Outcomes
Curriculum includes professional courses and clinical experiences to support professional development and prepares students to become respiratory care practitioners with advanced-level skills.
A student earning a Bachelor of Applied Science in Respiratory Care will be able to:
- Perform tasks and skills necessary for fulfilling the role of an entry level respiratory care practitioner with advanced knowledge in adult critical care, neonatal/pediatric care and disease management.
- Demonstrate ethical respiratory care practices for decision making in the delivery of patient care.
- Provide care that is culturally responsive by considering and respecting multiple dimensions of human diversity.
- Practice team collaboration, leadership, and management skills in healthcare settings.
Program Eligibility
To qualify for admission to the BAS Respiratory Care program, eligible applicants must have:
- Completed or be in process of completing AAS-T (pre) Respiratory Care at Highline College
- Completed 45 credits of required BAS Respiratory Care prerequisites ;
- Official transcripts from a regionally accredited college or university;
- GPA 2.5 or better in all courses
Application Process
To be considered for the Bachelor of Applied Science program in Respiratory Care, prospective students must submit the following:
- Completed Highline bachelor “Application for Program Admissions” forms
- Nonrefundable application fee
- Copy of transcripts from regionally accredited college or university
Important Notes
- This information does not substitute for meeting with a faculty adviser.
- Once accepted into the program students must achieve a minimum 2.5 grade in each Professional-Technical Core course and Support course.
- This program is offered only on a full-time basis with a new cohort starting each fall quarter.
- Mid-way through the program students will complete an AAS-T (pre) Respiratory Care degree upon successful completion of 50 credits support courses and 40 credits of Respiratory Care core courses.

Requirements
Please contact Faculty Advisory or Program Manager for most updated information. Students must have a total of 60 general education courses to be awarded the BAS degree.
- Higher level courses will be considered to meet requirements of prerequisites
- Students can apply when 30 credits of prerequisites are completed. If selected for acceptance all 45 credits of prerequisites must be completed before program start
