R C 103 - Respiratory Care Science4 Credits Presents advanced principles of respiratory function and of physiological factors that affect respiration. Topics include acid-base balance, gas transport, arterial blood gases and neural control of breathing.

Student Learning Outcomes The student will be able to discuss the roles of pH, carbon dioxide, and oxygen on regulation of ventilation
The student will be able to identify factors which affect acid-based balance.
The student will be able to explain the means by which oxygen is delivered to bodily tissues, and carbon dioxide is removed.
The student will be able to interpret lab values relating to arterial blood gas levels.
The student will be able to identify clinical applications of selected blood test values.
