READ 110 - Academic Vocabulary5 Credits This course develops general and academic vocabulary with an emphasis on academic words. Memory strategies, dictionary use, context clues, and word elements will be addressed. Students will also learn how to apply the vocabulary learning strategies in their personal and/or academic reading.

Students will also learn how to apply the vocabulary learning strategies in their personal and/or academic reading.
Student Learning Outcomes Develop fundamental study strategies to learn vocabulary.
Determine the meaning of unfamiliar words by using contextual information, affixes, etymology, dictionary and/or thesaurus.
Distinguish between the denotative and connotative meanings of words and interpret the connotative power of words.
Identify and use the literal and figurative meaning of words.
Transfer and apply vocabulary learning strategies to readings in academic courses.
