RC 310 - Clinical Rotation lll

5 Credits
This is course 3, of 8, for rotations at area clinical sites. The course is designed for learners to care for patients under the guidance of clinical instructors. Learners will build and reinforce skills learners demonstrated within the lab setting and previous clinical rotations, including but not limited to patient assessment across the age spectrum, interpreting patient data, and performing a variety respiratory care patient support and therapies.

Course Outline
  • Familiarity with hospital specific mechanical ventilator and other respiratory devices
  • Assessments of hemodynamic parameters during respiratory therapies and patient assessment
  • Artificial airway care, including suctioning, and medication delivery
  • Extubation of artificial airway and providing patient support
  • Assist with intubation


Student Learning Outcomes
Interpret patient data, including basic chest x-ray assessment and arterial blood gas values, to suggest patient care plans during health care team rounds.

Provide accurate medical delivery to patients with artificial airways.

Analyze patient conditions to assist RN in planning the schedule for the day.

Effectively operate mechanical ventilators and assess efficacy.

Perform respiratory therapies, including manual resuscitation, cough assist, and bronchial hygiene for patients using mechanical ventilation with artificial airways.

Practice time management skills.
