A business education equips students with a diverse set of skills, ranging from critical thinking and problem-solving to effective communication and decision-making abilities, all of which are highly valued in a wide range of industries. The Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Business program is a broad degree that teaches students the essentials of business management, accounting, finance, marketing, technology including advanced Excel, leadership, and project management. Students will learn the practical skills and business theory they need to succeed in today’s competitive work environment.  In addition, this degree provides a seamless pathway to the Bachelor of Applied Science in Business Management at Highline College

For students progressing to the Business Management Bachelor of Applied Science degree, please take BUS&201 and either ENGL&101, CMST& 101 or CMST& 220, whichever is not taken under the Communications Requirement below.

Program Outcomes


  • Interpret and use oral instructions to complete assigned tasks; speak clearly and produce written documents for a diverse group of customers, coworkers and managers utilizing current business terminology.
  • Use supervisory skills and interact on an interpersonal level with diverse groups.
  • Identify, evaluate and apply industry specific business principles. Make informed decisions within the parameters of legal requirements and societal expectations.
  • Apply sound financial principles for bookkeeping, budgeting, financial reporting and planning.
  • Use an understanding of basic business principles and organizational priorities to make decisions about work being performed.
  • Employ workforce readiness skills, including problem solving, organizational planning and time management
  • Utilize current industry technology in business applications to efficiently and effectively create actionable information.

  • Business degrees are not intended for business majors planning to transfer to a traditional four-year program but will transfer to Applied Bachelor’s degrees offered by Highline and other colleges.
