Introduction to Office Assistant

After completing this two-quarter short certificate, students will learn the basics of navigating office applications to accomplish a variety of office environment work tasks. These skills include managing Microsoft Windows operating system, fast and accurate keyboarding and 10-key skills, document formatting for businesses with Microsoft Word, formatting and using formulas with Microsoft Excel, creating presentations with Microsoft PowerPoint, and creating and managing databases with Microsoft Access. Students will learn how to create professional resumes, cover letters, improve their professional image, and go through a mock interview. This certificate is part of the Business Technology stackable program that leads to a higher degree.

Entry Requirements
- Minimum ESL level 4 or above recommended.
- GED or high school diploma not required, but recommended.

Program Outcomes
- Students will correctly use components of Microsoft Office programs to create professional and academic documents.
- Demonstrate using the keyboard by touch, using correct fingering on letters, numbers, and symbols, with correct ergonomic technique.
- Use Microsoft Word to format, proofread, and edit professional business documents such as reports, tables, meeting & event materials, and business letters.
- Demonstrate use of the latest Windows Operating System to navigate and customize the Windows desktop.
- Develop professional written and oral communication skills.
- Accurately construct effective documents pertinent to a job search, and employ professional interviewing skills in a graded mock interview.
