ABE 5 - Educational Interviewing

10 Credits
This course is designed for Welcome Back participants only. The purpose of this course is to move participants into the 2nd phase of their intensive case management, barrier reduction, education intervention and persistence through research-proven goal setting, career assessment, problem solving, evaluation and intervention and self-awareness strategies so that they may re-enter the health care profession in some capacity. Students will be tested and placed in appropriate education interventions towards the end of the course if applicable. Students will also be referred to appropriate programs and services as needed.

Course Outline
This course focuses on seven areas: I. Referral to the education interventions, programs, colleges, HCC resources and service; II. Current abilities, characteristics, styles, and readiness to learn; III. Identifying personal, educational, and employment background and interests; IV. Skill gaps, learning deficiencies and difficulties, barrier identification with strategies, recommendations and interventions for improvement; V. Long-term and short-term goals and strategies to reach those goals; VI. The skills and interventions needed to reach those goals, and VII. A plan of action to reach the goals (personal learning/action plan)
