Digital Forensics & Protection, Certificate

This certificate program validates students’ ability to master foundational information security concepts and the investigative process. Students will be able to detect a computer system’s vulnerability, identify threats, and assess the risk. They will also be able to track an intruder’s digital footprint. This certificate’s credits can be applied to an AAS degree or used to fulfill some of the admission requirements for the BAS in Cybersecurity and Digital Forensics.

Prerequisites

In addition to the course below, students should have a working knowldege of the UNIX/LINUX system or have taken CIS 215 or equivalent.

Program Outcomes

Describe the fundamental concepts of the cybersecurity discipline and use them to provide system security.
Describe federal, state, and local cyber defense partners/structures.
Analyze digital forensic images/evidence for an investigation using proper procedures based on industry standards and appropriately use the vocabulary associated with cybersecurity.
Demonstrate understanding of the interaction between security and system usability and the importance of minimizing the effects of security mechanisms.
Monitor traffic on a system to detect anomalies and/or possible intrusions.
Apply network system hardening.
